Ok, so this is kind of a big personal thing for me. I've been secretly raising 5 ducks in my backyard. My mom's allergic to chicken eggs, and duck eggs seem to not cause her any problems. But the thing is, ducks are illegal to raise in Huntington Station, NY! Chickens just got legalized this year, but for some reason ducks and geese were left out. The town found out, and are now trying to make me get rid of them. But I won't go down without a fight! How could anyone think something as cute as a ducky would be so illegal?! Anyway, I'm now trying to raise some awareness about the benefits of backyard ducks as pets in my area, and hopefully get the law changed so that I can keep my little quackers. (They don't really even quack loudly either!)
I'll post more pictures of my babies soon, but you can check pics out at my facebook group. Also, please sign my petition to legalize them! Every vote counts!

Over on my Sugar Mountain Farm blog on the Ducks Discover Pond post you asked about getting the ducks legalized in your town. Fight it hard. It is most unfortunate that a few busy bodies try to control everyone else and outlaw clothes lines, chickens, ducks, etc. They even go as far as telling people how to mow their lawns and what colors to paint their houses. Never give up. Keep fighting it. There is a similar case going on in a town near us. Try and contact the lady involved, Kathy Rubalcaba. she may have some strategy ideas for you. There might be right to farm laws that could help you. We very purposefully live in a very rural farming area with no zoning so we don't have to deal with this sort of social garbage.
Hello, I signed you petition. You may want to check out http://pathtofreedom.com/
as they have had Khaki Campbell Ducks for years in the heart of the city, L.A. To be exact. Maybe they can give you some advice. My Khaki Campbell lay's an egg everyday. They are small in size only reaching to 4 to 4.5 lbs as an Adult. Perfect for the city. I used to live in the city limits and they made me get rid of my ducks. It was over years ago. I now live in the country and if I ever live in the city again it will only be if they allow chicks and ducks.
Hello Ava, I just discovered your comment in :To the max blog, on a man walking a duck. So I went to your blog and discovered that you also love ducks.I find it so unfortunate for you that the town found out and now are trying to make you get rid of them. Don't give up without a fight . We had a pet duck called Pipke. I rescued her when she came out her egg in an abandoned nest. She was the best that ever happened to us. Unfortunate she died recently on September 14, she became 14 years and three months old.
I started my blog to tell her life story but she died before I could publish the full story. You can see pictures and films of her in my blog. I can recommend you to keep ducks as a pet. You can't imagine how much love they can give you they bring so much joy in your life.
I wish you success with the petition. I shall folow your blog for more news.
